I have had two surgeries, because it came back after seven years
Thank you for responding.  Dylan's was ganglioma in the speech and retention center.  It has been 17 months, but he showed possible regrowth at his one year MRI.  Did yours only show after the seven years?  Or did it grow slowly for a period of time.

Yup,

I had two consecutive OPs in 2001 (wednesday morning, thursday morning) and a third a couple of years later and the last one in '07.  The first set they tried out neuro-navigation, but because the software was still relatively new, it didn't compensate for the shifting of the remaining tissue, think of how a bowl of jello reacts when you try to take something out of the middle.  So I came out of the anethestic and the surgeon told me " sorry, it didn't work as good as we'd liked....can we go back in tomorrow?"  I figured in my dazed state that if they have to go in again anyways, might as well do it before it heals back up.  I'm still not sure if i regret that or not.  The last surgery was the easiest to deal with, mainly because I knew what to expect ( basically, you'll know about what to expect on the next surgery, hope that helps a bit. I had 50 rads or so of radiation last year and the last control MRI (this past month) showed status quo, so I'm happy about that.

PS: astro II right frontal temporal

He had a very hard time with his first surgery.  He has still not gone back to school.  He is doing OK, but the trauma was bad.  He is very thin.  I am concerned , but your story is encouraging.

Mine was growing very slowly, after 4 years it showed possible regrowth and after 7 years they called me after mri because of recurrence. At that time i had pain in my legs (it was in my spine) But it was still a shock and I was having surgery two months after that.

Over the course of ten years i had six surgeries for a stubborn craniopharyngioma. Because it was situated on the optic nerve and carotid artery they were always afraid to get too close and therefore kept leaving some of the tumor in, which then grew more. Eventually I had radiation (almost two years ago) which was supposed to get rid of that little bit remaining, and the mris since then have so far been clear. Hopefully Dylan will not have to go through so many.
