48th Annual Metuchen Country Fair is a Family Affair for It's Just Bengin

October 19, 2011 - Edison, NJ -- For It's Just Benign Founder, Beth Rosenthal, the 48th Annual Metuchen Country Fair was a family affair. With the help of family, friends, and volunteers, It's Just Benign (IJB) had a really successful day at the fair on Saturday, October 15th. Aside from the fierce wind, the day went perfectly.

The day started out at 8:30AM with Beth's Mom (aka Queen Mother) and Beth meeting at booth #109 on Main Street. They set up the table by filling it with the benign brain tumor display, brochures, articles, tee-shirts, etc., and made sure it didn't blow away. Beth's Mom started right away holding out a collection can and started saying "help benign brain tumor survivors and It's Just Benign".

About an hour later the first volunteer, IJB member Pat Garner showed up with her two helpers, her two beautiful daughters (5 and 9 yrs. old). They dedicated their whole day to educating the public about benign brain tumors.

Beth's Mom and Pat brought a whole bunch of candy to give away.  Pat also brought a case of water to give away and she made these awesome labels to put on the bottles. The label had on it "Courtesy of It's Just Benign. Follow us on FB and twitter, etc". She copied it off of the website and it was a great idea. So we had candy and water to lure fair goers. Her girls were a big hit and her little one is delicious! The next volunteer to arrive was IJB member Dan Lebar. Dan started talking to anyone who would listen.

The day was flying by so quickly. That's what happens when you're stuffing dollar bills into collection cans and meeting people like Assembly Major Peter J Barnes III, Majority Whip, 18th District.  He is in the picture to the right with IJB Founder Beth Rosenthal.

Beth's Dad, his wife, and her granddaughter stopped by for a few hours and started fundraising too. He approached people by asking if anyone they know had been in the hospital and then he went into IJB and the background of it.  Later, Beth and her dad walked around together and introduced ourselves to some local vendors.

Around 3 PM things were winding down and some vendors were cleaning up. It's Just Benign stayed open until the very last second, around 4:30 PM.  Everybody worked really well together and everyone participating had a good time.  It was a very special day for Beth.  IJB not only raised the $67 that was paid for the fair, but raised enough to keep the website (ItsJustBenign.org) going for about four more months.

The day wasn't only about fundraising. Beth is very interested in educating about how life-threatening benign brain tumors are.  Beth represents all IJB members as she discusses uncontrollable seizures and pain, vision and hearing loss, stroke-like symptoms, etc. The hope is that IJB resonated with the donors and fair-goers yesterday and that they read the brochures about how IJB is filling a void in our society.
