"Beth, I would like to get others together too. I have a daughter that (so far 9 years later) had a astrosytoma that was benign (told us there was a possibility it would come back. It's still stressful to go for that MRI to check on it; so far…"

Profile Information

Who are you?
Family
What type of tumor do/did you have?
My daughter had an astrosytoma at age 5 she's now 13
What kind of info do you want from this site?
Ok. Years of MRI's because there was a possibility it could come back, she started having seizures again because of scar tissue and hormones. So far 9 years later no sign of tumor which is fantastic! We can deal with the seizures and meds!
What state or country are you located in?
Just to meet other people with the same sort of experiences. No one I know can seem to grasp the tension and dread when we have to go for another MRI.....yes it's been almost 9 years, but that feeling never goes away. I remember when I saw the first one and before the dr said anything I SAW it and when he was talking all I could think was "so this is what it feels like to be totally numb" because I KNEW what it was. Thank God so far it hasn't been back. (her dr told me it was begin, with a possibilty of coming back.)

Hello Jill. I just saw a msg. that you left me last year about a support group or fundraiser. What about starting an It's Just Benign support group? Or go to your favorite shop and see if you bring in ppl. to spend if they'd donate 10% to you? That's the easiest thing. Anyway, I'm working on a kids area here. Take a look at the tabs on top to check it out. I hope that your daughter is doing well.

Hi Jill. Is that your daughter or do you look very young? I completely empathize with the MRI. We all do here. No one undertstood what I was dealing with (with the exception of my parents) and everyone was in denial that I'd need another surgery. It's been 24 yrs. later and I still worry. Sometimes there's no explaining science, no matter what doctors tell me. I'm working on officially getting the non-profit label and am not sure the legalities of a big fundraiser. What exactly would it be for? Where are you located? I think that we should have a March or rally, since people don't grasp the severity of this. I explain it by saying if my tumor grows my breathing and swallowing will be compromised. It's easier to understand that way, I think.
I need to get going but, wanted to start writing back.
