"Congrats Peggy! It's a very important day. I wish people remembered my day. At 11, I was too young to remember or understand it. But I'm glad that you're celebrated. You should be."

Happy Anniversary?

This Friday will be the 20th anniversary of my first craniotomy. Funny, I didn't think people celebrated these types of anniversaries, but we do. I would rather celebrate that awful day than to not be here to celebrate at all. I remember preparing for that day. I was a single parent and my daughters were 6, 11 and almost 13. I borrowed money from family to do Black Friday Christmas shopping. I bought them everything they had wished for, lovingly wrapped them and put them under a decorated tree.…See More

Hello Peggy,

I had a benign astrocytoma as a child which was partially removed at age 7.  It was in cerebellum and some stem.  So after seven brain surgeries in 99 I was a first year optometry student when I suffered a hemorrhagic brainstem stroke which completely changed my life.  I now have double vision ringing in ear hearing loss on right difficulty with balance writing right side of face is paralyzed so i cant chew on that side and use a straw to drink.. i have chronic headaches now which are so so debilitating.  Just after the stroke I suffered a few seizures so I was put on keppra and never taken off of that drug.  I wanted to comment on the spring that you mentioned for the eye. I have the eye weight in the lid and dont think its closing all the way because my eye is always red too.  I have seen headache specialists for years and nothing seems to help.  Life is so so hard now because you cant do what most young adults my age do.  I do photography on my good days and exhibit at a rehab hospital.  They also can cosmetically like do face surgery where they get a nerve frrom the ankle attach it to a facial nerve wait until it grows and do the second surgery then.  Not sure if i want surgery now. I do check my regular email more often which is kan0085@aol.com  I also wonder if t his site has survivors from Boston.  TAKE CARE.

Hello Peggy and welcome. Thanks for joining. I started this site because I had such difficulty finding benign brain tumor survivors, like myself. I'm a long term survivor (but have many side-effects): diagnosed in 1985 at age 11. Besides connecting with survivors, we can exchange medical info, get support, etc. There is also a Q & A with a neurosurgeon and a nutritionist under the Resources tab. Also there are many different groups such as relious discussions, migraines, seizures, single parents, etc. Thanks again for joining. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
P.S. There are a few members with trigeminal shcwanomas. Also I have trigeminal neuralgia.
