Howdy Folks

My son was diagnosed w/ a brain tumor when he was 12. It was watched via MRI's every 6 months, until at the age of 17, it was shown to have doubled in size almost, so it was removed at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN on Januray 31st 2008. He had a grade II astrocytoma removed from his left frontal lobe. While it was still in his brain it did some damage by just being there. When it grew it did more. he is now going to be 20 in August, and I am happy to say he is doing much better, although he will…See More

Well, had it not been for the fact that my son had a brain tumor removed a year prior to mine( Jan.2008 -astrocytoma-frontal lobe), and my dad having a meningioma as well, I would be off my rocker...As it is I'm only 1/2 way off my rocker:)

One Year MRI

Tomorrow aftrnoon I am getting my post surgery MRI( 1 year , even though one year would be middle of April:)).

I wasn't even thinking about it really until my son came over for dinner tonight after class, and I brought it up to him. It then hit me....

The last couple of months have been pretty good and I'd like to keep it that way. I don't want any surprises...Know what I mean(s) jelly bean(s)? :)

Anyone w/ Periphial Nerve Issues?

Was wondering if anyone had any issues w/ sensations in arms and/or legs after surgery(or even before for that matter).

I was diagnosed w/ Raynaud's before I even had a brain tumor, but after its removal, my arms, but mainly my legs, feel worse. My feet feel cold all the time. Like they are freezing and my calves feel weaker and more 'numb' for lack of a better term. They ache a bit too.

For those of you who may wonder what Raynaud's is, here is a link for info…

Hi Wendy. I hope that you're doing well. I was having so many health problems the last few weeks. I have a scratch on my cornea that's not healing and my trigeminal neuralgia pain has been horrible. Both are related to the trigeminal nerve and are b/c of the tumor. I'm finally doing better and am back in the land of the living.
Anyway, in welcoming Thomas, I saw on his page a note from you saying that you have relatives in NJ. I sure hope that we'll meet too if come here. Maybe you and your son can come to the walk. I hope at some point that we all meet. It will happen.
Anyway, thinking of you.

I just had my 14th of 28 treatments today. So far it is going better than I expected.
I'm the Operations Director at a Civic Center. It is more of a challenge to do my job now, but it is something that I just have to work through.

Hi Wendy,
I mostly have issues with coordination and strength in my right side. Also some short term memory loss. I'm currently in the middle of radiation treatments and I have noticed these issues becoming more severe in the last few days.

Hi Wendy,

"Fresh" is right! They did not get it all - optic nerve sheath meningioma left along with tumor around carotid artery. Optic Nerve tumor has continued to cause some double vision and depth perception problems. Radiation will start in June darn!

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for providing some insight in the discussion. I am confused ha. First the NS at Mayo questions the biopsy. Then, he expresses he's not sure if treatment would do anything in terms of growth/prognosis. And now most docs think my symptoms (even my visual disturbances) are not related!!! ah

I have a meeting at Sloan Kettering, then probably John Hopkins/Duke. What do you think is the best way to contact Dr. Reid. Email or phone? I sure hope he isn't as wishy washy as this last Dr.! Thanks for the support.
