Cognitive Issues

Hi!  I am starting this group because I would like to find others to relate to who also have cognitive issues left over from their brain tumors, medication or surgeries.  I have a great deal of trouble mentally processing information.  Everyone thinks I'm normal but I get nausious almost everyday and have headaches and often feel worried about saying or doing the wrong thing.See More

Trying to be strong

Well the whole things really a long story but last year I tried to go down on my siezure meds so I wouldn't be so tired all the time at work and school but because they are also mood stabilizers I started to have very bad panic attacks and became scared to do normal things like eat and drive and go to work and school.  I basically ruined my academic record which was painful and was just totally messed up for a while.  I have had panic attacks since my brain surgeries but those were the…

Claire totally gets me

I was watching Heroes the other day and I felt like I could relate to Claire in her conversation with Sylar :

[ "I like to think of myself as just a girl who happens to have this power.  It’s just one thing in a list of attributes : loyal, friendly, regenerative, good skin but when you put the chips down and life gets tough, I hide behind that one label, that one attribute and I close myself off...I use my specialness to build these walls." ]

thoughts on aphasia and existentialism

I posted this in my cognitive issues goup but I thought it was fitting for my blog as well :

Right now I'm in a french existentialism class and I feel like I relate strongly to Jean Paul Sartre in Nausea.  One of the great themes in his book is that language is a thin veneer that separates us from the real world and that when one understands this it is at the same time liberating and nauseating.  With all the speech aphasia issues I have had I feel like…

some additional info.

I thought I'd add a bit of medical history for those interested.  I had siezures around 12 or 13 and was diagnosed at 14.  My last surgery was when I was 18.  I probably should have had more MRIs but I haven't had one in like 10 years because of financial difficulty.(additionally my mom is a nurse and said there wasnt really a reason for an MRI unless I had symptoms)  I am however scheduling one now and crossing my fingers!
