Madison Beggs up date 3/16/11 Round 3 of Chemo

Friday, March 11, 2011 12:46 PM, EST

We are back in the hospital again. Madi had her port put back in yesterday. She asked if they can put it on the same spot and they did.  They also started her third round of chemo last night.  They did a hearing test this morning cause she has been complaining of not being able to hear and unfortunately with taking all those chemo drugs she is losing some of her hearing. There is nothing that we can do at this point. She may possibly have to wear a hearing aid.  Once all treatments are done, they will be able to determine a course of action. Today, she is also scheduled for her MRI.  Just waiting for that.  She is in her room in good spirits and sewing a pillow for Num Nums with one of the child specialist, John.  I would like to thank Iron Matt, a foundation, for easing some financial burden.  I heard about them through our counselor, Karen.  Here is their website if anyone would like to know more about this generous foundation:  http://www.ironmatt.org/.

We will be in the hospital for 10 days or so..... If anyone wants to visit, hours are from 10 am to 9 pm. No flowers or latex balloons:). Ms. Allen can attest to the no latex balloons. Lol.

So when we got to the hospital her temperature was at 102.9. They accessed her port and did some blood work. Culture won't be in for three days to find out if she has an infection. We got into the Hemoc floor and she was shaking uncontrollably for half an hour. Her fever spiked to 104.6. Dr Rosman checked her pressure and she was very high. He was concerned and called a specialist cause she also displayed other symptoms like her left eye was displaying more like a lazy eye. I also noticed that on our way to the hospital she was not understanding me like disoriented. There was talks of going to the PICU - pediatric icu unit. Dr Kelley came and checked her vitals and diagnosed that she was ok on the floor she was at. By the time he came she seemed to be fine and kept telling them to leave her alone and all she wanted was to go to sleep. She was exhausted. Oh they also put an ivy in her to be able to give her more meds along with her accesed port.

I woke up this morning and the nurse told me that her temperature is down because she is given Tylenol every 4 hours. Her magnesium and potassium are low. They gave her a unit of platelets and blood last night but they are giving her another unit this morning.

So far she is ok. She's already giving me the silent treatment. I don't know what I did but for now I'm ok cause I know she is feeling fine. If Madi wasn't mad at me for one reason or another then I would know something was definitely wrong... Lol.

Thank you for all your concerns. I'm sorry I can't respond to everyones well wishes. It's not an option on the site.

Just know that we look at them and she feels everyones love. Madi is a fighter and she will beat this!!!! We have three more treatments to go and we are hoping to be done beginning of July.

    Hugs and kisses to all.

When I picked Madi from her dad's house she was shaking. The home health aid told me that she was also shaking when she got there and Madi was sleeping. I took her home and she was shaking more uncontrollably and I took her temperature. Her temperature was 100.4 so I called the clinic. Dr Glod told us to come in to the emergency room. I took her temperature again and it was 102.9. On our way to the hospital her nose started bleeding. So here we are at the hospital again:(.

I remember going wig shopping. My mom tried to make it into a fun outing. We tried on blue wigs, Tina Turner-like wigs, etc. I tied a bow around my head, Madonna-style. So I understand the big deal it is. Madi is a few yrs. Younger than I was. I was 12. Just keep us posted.

Madi and I went wig shopping yesterday. She should get it on Tuesday and we made a hair appointment with our favorite hair dresser so she can style it. On our way to wig shopping Madi asked me "Why did God choose Me to have cancer?" I simply told her that God doesn't give us anything we can't handle. I told her that we have been through so many things in life already and this will just make her stronger. I'm very proud of her because she is really a strong person. She's been put through a lot and one day this will all be behind us.

Today she is spending the day and night with her father at his house.

I know she has a lot of big sisters from RWJH  but i will forward this to her mom as we are now in the Philippines till June.  We do get to talk with her on Skype now & then and i have your website on her computer  Thanks Norm

Hi Norman. I'm so sorry to hear that Madi is back in the hospital. I lost the hearing in my left ear and it's permanent. Hearing aids won't help. Does Madi want to meet another survivor? I'd love to be a big sister tosomeone. Keep us posted.
