Sheryl Crow Diagnosed with Meningioma…and Doesn’t Seem Worried

Here’s another unfortunate person to add to the list of Celebrity Meningioma victims.

Strangely, though, Ms. Crow doesn’t sound like she’s all that worried or maybe knowledgeable about meningioma. According to her quotes in MTV News she said “I worried about my memory so much that I went and got an MRI. And I found out I have a brain tumor," Crow told Doug Elfman of Las Vegas Review-Journal on Friday at the Mandalay Bay hotel. "And I was, like, 'See? I knew there was something wrong.' I haven't really talked about it," she added. "In November, I found out I have a brain tumor. But it's benign, so I don't have to worry about it. But it gives me a fit." Here’s a link to that article: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1686628/sheryl-crow-brain-tumor.jhtml

Her quote gives me fits.

I want to send her the “It’s Just Benign” website link so she could read it and realize that meningioma can be a dangerously debilitating tumor. I worry that’s she’s getting some awful advice, or that maybe she’s just in denial.

In either case, she’s doing an incredible disservice to those of us who have meningioma, who have suffered, who are handicapped and are hurting.

The quote of the “singer’s rep” in the same article was even worse saying “"Half of us are walking around with [meningioma] but you don't really know unless you happen to have an MRI”.

I invite you all to leave Ms. Crow (I don’t know her well enough to call her Sheryl) a message on her Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/sherylcrow.  I have.

Maybe she'll come to that point where she will be a spokesperson for brain cancer. I hope. I suppose though that she needs to deal with things first on her own and cope with the fact that she has a brain tumor. Again, each person in the way they deal with this sort of news handles and processes things very differently. Some can take the news better than others. Anyway, I am disappointed too in the way things have been handled by her camp and the way they seemingly have made this huge issue into a non-issue considering they have such a large following. Again, I hope Sheryl comes around once things have settled down a bit and she has a handle on things where she can be an advocate for all of us who have a brain tumor.

Hi to all. Sorry to hear Sheryl Crow has something in common with me...... I was personally disappointed that she chose to make light of such a serious diagnosis and seemingly unaware of the facts. I had brain surgery, radiation and won't know for awhile if the tumor has shrunk. I have daily seizures and face fear every day. I volunteer for the National Brain Tumor Society of Phila. and would love to have Cheryl as a spokesperson to help educate the masses and help raise funds for research. Wishing her the very best.......and hope she helps to make something positive out of ......

A lot people in the public spot light say things like that. It's all about what there handlers tell them, don't alarm your fans! Remember Ted Kennedy, at first it was no big deal until the very end, and we know how that worked out.

John, you are right, we all are battling with the  effects of our tumors, and it is no laughing matter to just blow it off like she is. May a veiw of this web site will enlighten her.

Here's her statement on Facebook:

Hey everyone - please don't worry about my "brain tumor", it's a non-cancerous growth. I know some folks can have problems with this kind of thing, but I want to assure everyone I'm OK. I'm feeling very healthy and happy, and having a great time on the road playing with my new band. I'm busy working on my next record too, which 'm very excited about...and I'll be on The Tony Awards this Sunday. Really appreciate everyone's love and concern, I feel so blessed to have the support of all my fans, but I'm good - really! Love, Sheryl

Yeah, her comments are definitely interesting. Maybe she is denial, who knows...we don't know her at all. Each person has their own way of dealing with things I suppose.
